§ 78-2. Same—Functions.

  • (a)

    Such planning and zoning commission shall hold hearings for the purpose of considering plats to be filed, subdividing property in the city and shall consider, make suggestions concerning, approve or disapprove such plats sought to be filed. Such planning and zoning commission shall be vested with all of the authority given such commissions under the laws of the state, the Charter and the ordinances of the city. Such commission shall take into consideration the future growth of the city and shall make suggestions and assist the city council in any and all means possible to provide for the orderly growth of the city.

    (b)

    The commission shall hold all public hearings on matters concerning zoning and rezoning and after hearing, shall make its recommendation to the city council concerning the passage or nonpassage of ordinances changing or affecting the zoning within the city. The city council shall be entitled to consider the evidence heard at the public hearing held by such commission in deciding the legislative question of the passage of ordinances changing or affecting the zoning.
