§ 78-1. Planning and zoning commission—Created, number and terms of members.

  • (a)

    There is created a planning and zoning commission for the city, which shall consist of seven regular members and two alternate members who shall serve in the absence of one or more regular members when requested to do so by the city manager or his designee. The members and alternate members shall be citizens of Haltom City.

    (b)

    Places on the commission shall be numbered 1 through 7, and shall correspond with the places of the councilmembers who nominate them. The alternates shall serve in places designated "alternate one" and "alternate two."

    (c)

    Each councilmember shall nominate a member to the place on the commission which corresponds to the councilmember's place on the council. The mayor shall nominate the alternate members.

    (d)

    Each councilmember shall nominate a member and the mayor shall nominate the alternate members. The city council shall confirm nominations for appointment to the commission in order for an appointment to be effective. Members appointed to places 1, 2 and 7 and alternates shall be appointed in odd-numbered years. Members appointed to places 3, 4, 5, and 6 shall be appointed in even-numbered years.

    (e)

    The following matters shall be governed by the procedures contained in the provisions of division 1 of article II of chapter 2 of this Code:

    (1)

    Terms of office of commission members;

    (2)

    Removal of commission members;

    (3)

    Filling of vacancies on the commission; and

    (4)

    Procedures for commission meetings.
