§ 11.11. Classification examination requirement.

The city council shall approve the number of positions in each classification each year as part of the budget approval process. An existing sworn position/classification or a sworn position/classification created in the future may be filled only from an eligibility list that results from an examination held in accordance with this article.

An applicant for a beginning sworn position with the police department must be able to meet all legal requirements necessary for licensing as a sworn police officer under state law. An applicant for a beginning sworn position with the fire department must be able to meet all legal requirements necessary for certification under state law and be eligible to meet all requirements to be licensed or certified as a paramedic in the State of Texas.
